Back at the dock: Boat for Sale

Currently:  Captain Baila and crew, Larry Z. successfully navigated to the Baños de Cohuelmo near Parque Pumalin last week, despite the rain and cold.  In a bite on the north side of the Fiord Cohuelmo, they tied to cables, along with a couple of fishing boats, and went up the fiord in the inflatable skiff.  Here's a kayaking group's version of that trip:    You Tube: Kayaking Fiord Cohuelmo

Richard and Larry motored past the seals, past the waterfalls, and onto a seaweed strewn beach over which they had to portage the skiff aways before they could hike up to the primitive rock pools.  They re-arranged rocks in channels that carry hot water to the tubs, and enjoyed a few hours of soaking. 
Due to icy rain, they were freezing again by the time they got back aboard Abrazo ... but such is the life of the aventurero, cierto?

Abrazo's wood box was empty by the time they returned, a few days later, to the dock in Puerto Montt, happy with the trip.  The boat was warm and dry inside, except for that one small drip at the forward port corner of the cabin.  Now the laundry's done, and Larry has flown off to Puntas Arenas for a week of trekking, we turn our attention once more to SALES. 

More questions from Jorge, and El Capitan's answers: 

 

Paint and varnish in the galley.  Those pale orbs on the cabin side varnish are light reflections, not fades!

1.  ¿Es necesario lijado y barnizado de interior?   

No; though of course a new owner can do as he wishes.  The interior varnish is original.  We have only washed it, over the years.  Some of the interior paint was renewed in 1987.

No. Un nuevo propietario puede hacer lo que desea. El barniz interior es original. Sólo nos hemos lavado ello, a lo largo de los años. Parte de la pintura interior fue renovado en 1987.

 

2.  ¿El motor de 25 hp es suficiente o se puede instalar uno mas grande?  ¿cuanto gasta el motor de petroleo por hora?

The motor is sufficient for maneuvering the boat.  It pushes the boat at 4.5 knots approximately when there is no wind.  When there is wind, you sail!  [Further discussion of motor-size in future post.] 
Re: fuel.  I run the motor at 1400 rpm and it burns a little more than 1 liter/hour. 

El motor es suficiente para maniobrar el barco. Se empuja el barco en aproximadamente 4,5 nudos cuando no hay viento. Cuando hay viento, navegas!
RE: combustible. Corro el motor a 1.400 rpm y se quema un poco más de 1 litro / hora.

 3.  ¿Como solucionaba el problema de agua, al tener estanque tan chico?

RE:  water.  Maybe I don’t understand your question.  Or, maybe we made an error calculating liters per gallon on the blog.  There are four separate water tanks on the boat.  The sizes are as follows:  approximately 40 gallons under the forward berth in the focsle;  approx. 70 gallons in the main water tank, underneath the starboard settee berth; 20 gallons in the tank outboard of the woodstove in the galley (this tank is fitted with a coil for heating the water); 30 gallons in the saddle tank beside the cockpit.  Abrazo carries 160 gallons / 605 liters of water.

The boat has a Katadyn Power Survivor Watermaker (desalinator) that makes approximately 3 liters/hour.  (I am considering selling this separately if anything less than full price is offered for the boat.) 

RE: el agua. Tal vez yo no entiendo su pregunta. O, tal vez hicimos un error calcular litros por galón en el blog. Hay cuatro tanques de agua separadas en el barco. Los tamaños son los siguientes: aproximadamente 40 galones debajo de la litera adelante en el castillo de proa; aprox. 70 galones en el tanque de agua principal, debajo de la litera del settee de estribor; 20 galones en el tanque de motor fuera de borda de la estufa de leña en la cocina (este tanque está equipado con una bobina para calentar el agua); 30 galones en el tanque “de la silla” al lado del cockpit. Abrazo lleva 160 galones / 605 litros de agua.El barco tiene una Katadyn Survivor Potabilizador (desalinizador) que hace aproximadamente 3 litros / hora. (Estoy pensando en vender esta separado si menos que el precio completo está ofreciendo para el barco.)

 4.  ¿Se puede navegar en solitario?

Yes.  I sailed this boat by myself for 3 months in the Sea of Cortez, and 6 months in French Polynesia.  Also, I sailed from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt alone without problems.   I had crew for the major Pacific crossings, to satisfy my spouse.  I am physically fit, though almost 70 years old.   I have been sailing since I was a teenager. 

Sí. Navegué este barco yo solo durante 3 meses en el Mar de Cortés, y 6 meses en la Polinesia Francesa. Además, navegué desde Puerto Natales a Puerto Montt a solas y sin problemas. Tuve la tripulación para los travesías principales del Pacífico, para satisfacer mi esposa. Estoy en buen estado físico, aunque tengo casi 70 años de edad. He estado navegando desde que era un adolescente.

5.  ¿Tiene piloto automatico?

Yes.  The TP 22 autopilot needs repair.  The TP 20 is a backup and has not been installed, but it is all there.

6.  ¿Necesita radio HF?

The boat has HF radio and an antenna tuner.  There is a Pactor modem for email using the HF radio.

 7.  ¿Cuantos kg de leña y donde llevaba Ud. cuando navegaba?

I used Presto Logs.  I can fit 30 kgs of these in a stainless steel box/drawer built in below the stove.  I can carry additional firewood in the cockpit lockers. 

Usé briquettas nativos.  Puedo caber 30 kgs de estos en una caja / cajón de acero construido-en debajo de la estufa. Puedo llevar la leña adicional en los armarios del cockpit. 

8.  ¿Que otra calefaccion se le puede instalar?

There is space in the focsle, and there exists a 3” (almost 8 cm) deck plate, for a diesel-type heater – Force 10, e.g.   Also, if you take out the wood stove, you would have space for whatever kind of stove you want to buy.  The galley water tank becomes a bank of heat if you connect it to a stove. 

Hay espacio en el castillo de proa, y existe una placa de 3" (casi 8 cm) en la cubierta, para un calentador de tipo diesel - Fuerza 10, por ejemplo, Además, si usted saca la estufa de leña, que tendría espacio para cualquier tipo de estufa que desea comprar. El tanque de agua de la cocina se convierte en un banco de calor si lo conecta a una estufa.

9.  ¿Tiene layaut de la embarcacion?

You can see the layout by means of the photos in the blog.  However, a plan view is a good idea.  We will draw the layout with accurate measurements soon.

10.  ¿Como se bañaba en partes frias? ¿donde?

RE:  Bathing.  I don’t like to get wet.  Marina Jessica has showers.  The yacht club in Puerto  Williams has showers.  In between marinas, I bathe myself in the galley.  The boat has a compartment that could be a bathroom, for privacy.  The sink there drains into a bucket for disposal. 

RE: Baño. No me gusta de mojarse. Marina Jessica tiene duchas. El club de yates en Puerto Williams tiene duchas. En medio de los puertos deportivos, me lave en la cocina. El barco tiene un compartimiento que puede ser un baño, para la privacidad. El lavabo allí drena en un cubo para su eliminación.
