We posted a Boat for Sale ad on Yapo.cl, the Chilean version of Craig's List. Inquiries have come by email, and we have worked hard to answer the questions. Those from a certain "Jorge" have continued to come in, so we thought maybe the answers would make an interesting blog entry. (Bi-lingual, to boot. Please comment with corrections to my Google-aided Spanish, por favor.)

Buenas Tardes, Favor enviar inventario completo del velero, fotos

We sent the inventory, Spanish/English. I'll add it to the bottom of this entry. We asked Jorge to go to this blog for photos, as there are many in the initial blog entry. Richard answered the reparaciones questions as follows.
I'll continue with Jorge's next set of questions in the next blog entry. Please pass this info along if you know someone looking for a solid, well-built boat. El Capitan claims he will deliver the boat anywhere in the world (though, of course, there would be a small delivery fee).
Repairs (as distinct from maintenance): There have been no major repairs since the
months after the tsunami in Talcahuano 2-27-2010. At that time, the boat bottom was recaulked,
the boat was wooded (i.e. stripped of
all paint) and repainted, both topsides and bottomsides. That was the fourth paint job since the
original work 34 years ago. The topsides should be repainted in the
near future.
As far as maintenance goes, we took out the mast last year,
stripped and painted it, with a new forestay, as detailed on the blog. All
other fittings were inspected and deemed functional. This was the second complete overhaul in 34
years, since the mast was originally built.
I replaced one battery
with a new 200 amp Bosch maintenance-free battery in 2013. I am replacing the second battery next week. This marks the fourth set of batteries in the
34 years I’ve owned the boat.
There are some changes
a new owner might consider. I recommend
new, self-tailing sheet winches. The old
ones should be moved to the mast for halyard winches, and the existing halyard
winches should be scrapped. They
function, but the winch handle has been lost, so they are awkward to use. New winches would make sailing easier,
especially for a novice.
The forward hatch
cover needs to be refinished, i.e. sanded and varnished.
The TP22
autopilot is currently inoperable. I am
looking for someone who can repair it here in Chile.
The wood stove is
old and reaching the end of its useful life.
It should be replaced. The galley
has no other stove.
The genoa and
staysail are old and tired. Both sails
could be replaced. (The main sail is new
and is in excellent condition. The
geniker is relatively new and in good condition.)
Price: I want $40,000 US for this boat, which I know
to be made to last, and ready for ocean sailing. I will consider your best offer.
RE: reparaciones
Precio: Quiero $ 40000 Estados
Unidos para este barco, que sé que
ser hecho para durar, y listo para
la vela oceánica. Consideraré su mejor oferta.
